The Barn

For those of you who know me, you know that you can always find me at the barn. It's my great escape! Above is a picture of me standing in the middle of what should be the front entrance to the barn. As you can see they have already excavated the site, but have not yet poured the footers. The footers have since been poured and the base block laid. Now we're just waiting on the framing to begin! When we purchased the property it had an existing barn already in place and it was built right were Wray and I wanted to place the house. We hired a framer to deconstruct the barn, and after framing the house they will reassemble it. We were fortunate to have enough lumber inside the barn to make it even larger than the previous. It will end up being a 30'x64' foot barn made of rough cut white oak.

We have a DRIVE-WAY!!

Very exciting news! It took them about a half a day to put it in and it looks great!

The beginning of our foundation! The brick is already finished on the back and where there is cement block there will be stacked stone. We are really happy witth the brick color. It's so funny, because when you first see the footprint of the house everything looks so small. As they continue to build up it seems to be growing in size. The guys laying the foundation have worked so hard. Most days it's been in the high 90's, so it's been hot to say the least. It doesn't seem to slow them down. My mom and I took them milkshakes the other day and they drank them under the shade trees in the front yard.

HoMe

Well for those of you who don't know, Wray and I bought our first place and are building a house! We decided to buy raw land a few months ago after searching the area over last two years with not much luck. Our land is in Lincolnton, North Carolina about 30 minutes from uptown Charlotte. It's a beautiful peice of property (20 acres in total) and though there is alot of work ahead of us, we're up for the challenge. We have about 12 acres in pasture and 8 in woods, and that suited us and the horses perfectly. I started this blog in hopes of staying connected with friends and family - and most of all for Wray, who will be watching our house be built from 2,000 miles away. Great things do not happen without sacrifice and if anyone knows that we do!
